Rules for Convention

REGISTRATION
  • You can register here online or on the day of the convention.
  • Registration is $2.00/person via credit card (online) or $2.00 cash at the convention.
  • Online registration closes at 9:00 PM on on Tuesday, March 21st.
  • In person registration starts at 5:30 PM on March 23rd and closes at 6:30 PM. All persons in line at 6:30 PM will be allowed to register.
  • Every person who registers online or in person on March 23rd will have exactly the same opportunity to be selected as a delegate.
PRECINCT MEETINGS
  • Precinct meetings will be held at 6:30 PM before the convention begins.
  • Registered attendees will meet with their precincts.
  • The two items of business for each Precinct meeting are the election of delegates and the election of precinct officers – in that order.
ELECTION OF DELEGATES
  • 223 total delegates are authorized to vote at the convention. Delegates are elected by Precinct.
  • Each precinct has will have a number of delegates as designated by the NCGOP.
  • For example, the Kenly precinct (PR36-Bulah) has 15 authorized delegates to convention. If only 15 residents from PR36 register for convention, all 15 will be designated as Delegates. If 22 residents of PR36 register for convention, each registrant in attendance will vote for the 15 delegate positions. The registrants who receive the most votes will be designated as Delegates. The other 7 registrants would be designated as Alternates and may still attend the convention – however they do not have speaking or voting rights.
ELECTION OF PRECINCT OFFICERS
  • Once the Delegates have been identified it is time to elect a Precinct Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary.
  • Attendees may nominate themselves – or be nominated by someone else – and explain why he or she is the best person for the position.
  • If two or more attendees express an interest in serving as a Precinct Officer, then a vote among the delegates will occur to determine the officers. All precinct attendees may vote at the Precinct Meeting, regardless of whether they are Delegates or Alternates to the Convention.
  • If no one expresses interest in becoming the Precinct Chair, this Precinct becomes “unorganized”.
  • In the case of an unorganized precinct, the County Chair will designate a Temporary Chair and Temporary Secretary for the purpose of forwarding the named Delegates to the convention.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Precinct Officers elected at the upcoming Precinct Meeting must be a resident of the Precinct they represent.
  • All Delegates and Alternates must be a resident of the Precinct they represent.
  • All attendees at the Precinct Meetings or the Convention must be a registered Republican as of January 31, 2023.
